Big weekend of hoops! Batavia goes on the road to Western Brown on Friday and then travels up to Madeira for some Saturday night basketball action. Western Brown’s game started a tad earlier as the girls teams were also playing. Here’s the recap ⬇️

Recap: The Batavia Freshman squad continued their perfect season with an impressive 42-31 road victory over Western Brown, improving to an outstanding 12-0 record. Playing away from home, the team demonstrated excellent teamwork and balanced scoring throughout the contest, building a commanding lead early and maintaining control despite a late Western Brown rally.

Batavia jumped out to a strong start in the first quarter, with Bentley Brown leading the charge by scoring the first six points of the game. Brown’s hot shooting continued throughout the contest as he finished with 10 points on an efficient 5-6 field goal shooting performance. The team built an early 10-5 advantage after the first quarter, setting the tone for the rest of the game.

The second quarter belonged to the dynamic duo of Elijah Weisbrodt and Eli Beasley, who combined to outscore Western Brown nearly by themselves. Weisbrodt dominated the paint with 9 points in the quarter, finishing the game with 10 points on 3-5 field goal shooting, while also contributing 4-10 from the free throw line. Beasley caught fire from beyond the arc, nailing two three-pointers in the quarter and finishing as the game’s leading scorer with 12 points on excellent 4-7 field goal shooting, including a perfect 2-2 from the free throw line. Their combined efforts helped Batavia extend their lead to a commanding 29-10 at halftime.

Despite Western Brown’s spirited third-quarter comeback attempt, where they scored 20 points and went on multiple scoring streaks including a 12-point run late in the quarter, Batavia remained composed and closed out the victory. Role players like Steele Peavely and Grayson Kern contributed valuable minutes and timely baskets, with both finishing with 4 points each. The team’s depth and balanced attack proved to be the difference, as they secured another impressive win to keep their undefeated season alive.
