Senior Night is here! Batavia has 7 total seniors, making for a fun night of basketball festivities in a win against New Richmond. Special one for me (Coach Evans) as this group of seniors was the first group of freshmen that I coached 4 years ago. Here’s a recap ⬇️
Game Recap: The Batavia Varsity 2025-2026 basketball team delivered a dominant 78-22 victory over New Richmond in front of their home crowd, improving their impressive record to 9-2. The team showcased exceptional offensive firepower and balanced scoring throughout the contest, never allowing their opponents to mount any serious challenge after jumping out to an early lead.
Batavia set the tone immediately, opening the game with a blistering 7-0 run behind consecutive baskets from Carson Harris and a three-pointer from Brett McKeon. The team never looked back, extending their advantage to 27-10 by the end of the first quarter with Harris leading the way with 8 points in the period. The second quarter belonged to McKeon, who caught fire and poured in 9 points to help stretch the lead to 47-13 at halftime, including multiple three-pointers that energized the home crowd.
The offensive explosion continued in the second half, with Carter Cope taking center stage in the third quarter. Cope dominated the period with 8 points, including a pair of three-pointers and perfect free throw shooting, as Batavia outscored New Richmond to push their lead to 63-20. Three players led the scoring attack with outstanding performances: McKeon finished with 16 points on efficient 6-of-10 shooting while connecting on 3-of-7 from beyond the arc, Harris contributed 15 points on an impressive 7-of-11 field goal performance, and Cope also tallied 15 points with stellar 4-of-6 three-point shooting.
The depth and versatility of the Batavia roster was on full display, with Ryan Brose and Bryce Eads each adding 8 points while shooting well from three-point range. The team’s unselfish play and balanced attack allowed coach to give valuable playing time to the entire roster in the fourth quarter, with players like Logan Roller, Liam Trent, and Caleb Tobias contributing meaningful minutes and points to cap off an outstanding team victory.
My thoughts on yesterday’s game: Ayush Iyer! Ice in his veins! Ayush was fouled with the clock dwindling at the end of the game to earn him a trip to the free throw line. The entire building was on the edge of their seats as we all wanted Ayush to score. He’s a beloved member of Batavia High School and was a tremendous soccer player, earning Player of the Year as a defender. Ayush went to the line, took a deep breath, bent his knees, started his shot, followed through, CLANK. OH NO! There was immense pressure on these two free throw attempts. The place was raucous for him to score. He gathered himself, took a deep breath, bent the knees, started his shot, followed through, swish. The crowd went BERZERK. The buzzer sounded seconds later and the crowd rushed the floor as if we just won March Madness. Super cool moment to be apart of. Very happy for Ayush. Him and Enrique Ito were a dynamic duo on the freshman team in 2022. Shoutout Enrique!
Brett McKeon led the Bulldogs with 16 points. Carter Cope and Carson Harris had 15 each. Bryce Eads probably had the loudest 8 points you will ever hear as each bucket brought a pop from the crowd like he was the Beatles in the 1960s. Ryan Brose had 8 points to go with 7 assists! Logan Roller scored 7 points with an impressive and-1 off the feed from Brett McKeon.
Fox19’s Jeremy Rauch, one of my buddies who I used to play basketball with at 6 am on Wednesdays and Fridays, said on the FinalQuarter that Batavia’s student section was the student section of the night. Can confirm that it was the best one I saw that night! Also the best one I’ve seen in the past 4 years I have been coaching at Batavia. Great job to all of the students for coming out and bringing and authentic excitement for their love of their fellow classmates on the basketball team. Awesome atmosphere to be apart of.
