Batavia Varsity fell to Goshen 72-58 in an exciting home matchup that evens their season record at 1-1. Despite the final score, the team showed tremendous fight and offensive firepower throughout the contest, with several players stepping up to make significant contributions on both ends of the court.
The game got off to a fantastic start for Batavia, as they jumped out to an impressive 15-10 lead after the first quarter behind balanced scoring from multiple players. Brett McKeon got things rolling early with back-to-back field goals, while Ryan Brose connected on a crucial three-pointer and Logan Roller added a solid two-pointer to help build the early advantage. Carson Harris also began what would become a spectacular individual performance, chipping in 4 points in the opening frame.
However, Goshen began to find their rhythm in the second quarter, using an 8-point scoring streak to take their first lead of the game at 25-20. The momentum continued to swing as they extended that run to 10 straight points, but Harris refused to let his team fade quietly. The sophomore guard responded with an outstanding stretch of his own, scoring 7 points in the quarter to keep Batavia within striking distance at halftime, trailing just 31-27. Harris finished the night with a game-high 23 points on an efficient 10-of-15 shooting from the field.
The second half saw both teams trading baskets, with Batavia continuing to battle despite Goshen’s consistent offensive pressure. Logan Roller provided steady contributions throughout, finishing with 8 points on 4-of-8 shooting, while Ryan Brose knocked down 2-of-4 three-pointers to finish with 8 points of his own. Brett McKeon added 7 points including a clutch three-pointer, and Carter Cope contributed 6 points with a late three-pointer that showcased the team’s never-quit attitude. Though Goshen ultimately pulled away for the victory, Batavia’s offensive balance and determination provided plenty of positive momentum heading into their next contest.
