The Batavia Varsity 2025-2026 squad faced a tough test on the road against Goshen, falling 71-51 in a hard-fought battle that drops their record to 6-2. Despite the final score, the team showed great character and determination throughout the contest, with multiple players stepping up to contribute offensively.

The game started promisingly for Batavia, as Landon Larrison opened the scoring with an early basket to give his team a 2-0 lead. After Goshen responded with consecutive three-pointers to build an 8-4 advantage, the team rallied behind a Ryan Brose three-pointer and Brett McKeon field goal to stay within striking distance. The first quarter’s highlight came from Carter Cope, who had an outstanding period with 7 points, including a clutch three-pointer that briefly gave Batavia a 16-14 lead. Cope was perfect from the free-throw line, converting all four of his attempts in the quarter.

Goshen built momentum in the second quarter with a pair of 6-point scoring streaks, but Batavia continued to battle. The third quarter saw some excellent individual performances, with Logan Roller contributing 4 points and Landon Larrison adding 5 points, including a three-pointer that showcased the team’s fighting spirit. Carter Cope finished as the game’s leading scorer for Batavia with 11 points, shooting a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line. Brett McKeon and Ryan Brose each added 10 points, with McKeon shooting an efficient 5-for-12 from the field and Brose connecting on 2-of-4 three-point attempts.

The fourth quarter demonstrated the team’s resilience, as they continued to compete hard despite the deficit. Logan Roller capped off his solid 7-point performance with a three-pointer, while the team got contributions from multiple players throughout the contest. This tough road game will serve as valuable experience for the young squad as they look to bounce back and build on their strong 6-2 start to the season.
