The Batavia JV 2025-2026 squad delivered an impressive road performance, dominating New Richmond 49-27 to improve their record to 5-3. Playing away from home, the team showcased balanced scoring and strong teamwork throughout all four quarters, never trailing after the early minutes of the first quarter.
The game started competitively with New Richmond taking a brief 4-2 lead after connecting on an early three-pointer. However, John McKeon quickly answered back, tying the game at 4-4 with a field goal and then giving Batavia the lead for good with back-to-back free throws. McKeon’s hot start set the tone, as he finished with 12 points on efficient 5-7 shooting from the field. The first quarter ended with Batavia holding a slim 9-7 advantage, with McKeon accounting for 6 of those points.
Batavia truly took control in the second quarter, outscoring New Richmond 15-6 to build a commanding 24-13 halftime lead. Makai Taylor caught fire during this stretch, pouring in 8 points in the quarter alone. Taylor’s aggressive drives to the basket were perfectly complemented by Liam Trent, who knocked down a crucial three-pointer to extend the lead to 20-13. Taylor finished the night with 12 points on solid 5-11 shooting, while Trent led all scorers with 13 points despite a tough shooting night from beyond the arc.
The second half saw Batavia maintain their dominance, never allowing New Richmond to mount a serious comeback. The team’s depth shone through with contributions from Ethan Becker, who efficiently scored 5 points on 2-3 shooting, and Big Tone, who added 4 points on perfect 2-3 field goal shooting. The balanced attack and unselfish play resulted in a wire-to-wire victory that showcased this young team’s potential and growing chemistry on the court.
