The Batavia JV 2025-2026 squad put up a tremendous fight on the road against Goshen, ultimately falling 55-50 in a thrilling contest that showcased the team’s resilience and determination. The loss drops Batavia to 5-4 on the season, but this hard-fought battle demonstrated the kind of competitive spirit that will serve them well moving forward.

The game started as a back-and-forth affair with both teams trading baskets early. John McKeon got Batavia on the board first, answering Goshen’s opening score to tie it 2-2, and the teams continued to exchange leads throughout the first quarter. Keitan Rekal provided a spark with a clutch three-pointer late in the opening frame, helping Batavia take a 15-11 advantage into the second quarter. The team maintained their momentum in the second, building their largest lead at 26-20 behind McKeon’s consistent scoring and solid contributions from multiple players.

However, the third quarter proved challenging as Goshen mounted a determined comeback. After Batavia held a 32-30 edge, Goshen went on a devastating 7-0 run highlighted by back-to-back three-pointers that shifted the momentum decisively in their favor. The home team extended their surge to 9 straight points, opening up a 46-34 lead that put Batavia in a significant hole heading into the final stretch.

Despite facing a double-digit deficit, Batavia never gave up and showed tremendous heart in the closing minutes. McKeon, who finished with an outstanding 13 points on perfect 6-for-6 shooting from the field, led the late charge alongside Rekal, who contributed 12 points including two crucial three-pointers. Makai Taylor added 9 points and knocked down a late three-pointer as part of the team’s spirited rally that brought them within five points at 55-50. While they couldn’t complete the comeback, the team’s refusal to surrender and their collective effort provided plenty of positives to build upon for their next contest.
