The Batavia Freshman team continued their perfect season with an impressive 59-40 road victory over Goshen, improving to an outstanding 8-0 record. The team showcased their depth and talent in a dominant performance that saw them control the game from the opening tip to the final buzzer.
Batavia exploded out of the gates with an incredible 11-0 run to start the game, setting the tone for what would be a commanding performance. Elijah Weisbrodt (#42) and Steele Peavely (#2) led the early charge, with Weisbrodt scoring the first two baskets and Peavely drilling a three-pointer. The hot start continued as Weisbrodt connected on a three-pointer of his own, followed by Eli Beasley (#20) getting into the action with back-to-back scores. By the end of the first quarter, Batavia had built a commanding 21-4 lead, with Weisbrodt already posting 11 points on efficient shooting.
The second and third quarters saw Batavia maintain their dominance while showcasing balanced scoring across their roster. Weisbrodt continued his stellar performance, finishing with a game-high 25 points on an outstanding 10-14 shooting (71%) from the field, including a perfect 1-1 from three-point range. Beasley provided excellent support with 14 points on remarkable 5-6 shooting (83%) and was lethal from beyond the arc, connecting on 3 of 4 three-point attempts. Peavely added 12 points with solid all-around shooting, including 2-4 from three-point range, while Bentley Brown (#25) and Zion (#43) contributed valuable minutes and scoring when called upon.
The fourth quarter saw Batavia’s bench players step up and continue the strong play, with the team maintaining their substantial lead throughout the final period. The victory was a true team effort that highlighted the depth and skill of this undefeated squad. With balanced scoring, efficient shooting, and strong defensive play that held Goshen to just 40 points, Batavia demonstrated why they remain perfect on the season and continue to be a force to be reckoned with in their league.
