The Batavia Freshman basketball team continued their perfect season with an impressive 43-21 home victory over Clinton Massie, improving to an outstanding 10-0 record. The young squad dominated from start to finish, showcasing the depth and talent that has made them undefeated this season.
Batavia came out firing in the first quarter, racing to a commanding 17-3 lead behind a stellar performance from Tyson Eads, who scored 5 points including a three-pointer and perfect 2-for-2 free throw shooting. The team’s balanced attack was evident early as Elijah Weisbrodt contributed 4 points on 2-for-2 shooting, while Steele Peavely added 4 points of his own. The explosive start set the tone for what would be a wire-to-wire victory, with Batavia never trailing throughout the contest.
The second and third quarters saw Batavia maintain their dominance while giving valuable playing time to their entire roster. Gage Westerkamp began to heat up, finishing as one of the team’s leading scorers with 8 points, including a clutch three-pointer in the fourth quarter and solid 3-for-4 free throw shooting. Elijah Weisbrodt matched Westerkamp’s 8-point output with efficient inside scoring, going 4-for-10 from the field. The team’s depth shone through as players like Joey Elliott (5 points on excellent 2-for-3 shooting) and Steele Peavely (6 points) made significant contributions.
Batavia’s balanced scoring attack and stifling defense proved too much for Clinton Massie to handle. The victory not only extended their perfect record but also demonstrated the team’s ability to share the basketball and get contributions from multiple players. With five different players scoring between 5-8 points, this unselfish brand of basketball has been the foundation of their undefeated start to the season.
