The Batavia Freshman team delivered an outstanding defensive performance at home, cruising to a dominant 44-20 victory over Goshen to improve their perfect record to 2-0. The team showcased exceptional balance and depth throughout the contest, with five different players contributing significantly to the scoring effort and demonstrating the kind of teamwork that championship teams are built on.

The game started as a competitive back-and-forth affair, with Goshen matching Batavia’s early energy and even taking a brief 6-5 lead in the first quarter. However, Elijah Weisbrodt took control early, pouring in 6 points in the opening frame with efficient shooting (3-7 fg, 43%) and perfect free throw shooting (2-2 ft) to help establish an 11-7 lead. The second quarter belonged to the home team as they unleashed a devastating 16-2 run, with Gage Westerkamp contributing 5 crucial points during the surge to extend the lead to 27-9 at halftime.

Goshen showed heart in the third quarter, mounting their best scoring stretch with 9 consecutive points to cut into the deficit, but Batavia’s composure never wavered. Tyson Eads provided steady leadership throughout the game, finishing with 9 points on excellent shooting (3-5 fg, 60%) including a perfect three-pointer (1-1 3pt), while Bentley Brown was remarkably efficient with 6 points on 3-4 shooting (75%). The fourth quarter highlighted the team’s incredible depth, as Trey Gardner came off the bench to score 6 points on perfect 3-3 shooting, helping seal the victory and giving the coaching staff confidence in their entire roster as they continue their undefeated season.
