The Batavia Freshman team continued their perfect season with an impressive 40-32 home victory over Ross, improving to 4-0 on the year. The team showcased balanced scoring and clutch performances throughout the contest, maintaining their undefeated streak in front of their home crowd.
Batavia burst out of the gates with tremendous energy, racing to a commanding 9-0 lead to start the game behind stellar play from Gage Westerkamp and Steele Peavely. Westerkamp opened the scoring surge with a three-pointer, followed by a two-point basket, while Peavely contributed his own three-pointer during the early run. However, Ross battled back in the second quarter, eventually taking their only lead of the game at 19-17 late in the first half. The lead change sparked Batavia’s response, as they closed the half on a 6-2 run capped by back-to-back three-pointers from Westerkamp to take a 25-21 advantage into halftime.
The second half belonged to Westerkamp, who dominated the scoring with his consistent offensive attack. After Ross cut the deficit to just one point early in the third quarter, Westerkamp took control in the fourth period with a spectacular 7-point performance, including two crucial two-point baskets and a free throw that helped seal the victory. His 22-point performance on 8-18 shooting, including 3-8 from three-point range, was the driving force behind Batavia’s success. Eli Beasley provided excellent support with 6 points on efficient 2-4 shooting and an impressive 2-3 performance from beyond the arc, while Peavely chipped in 7 points despite a tough shooting night, showing great perseverance throughout the contest.
